SEO is NOT Magic
SEO - search engine optimization is not magic. It does require a good working knowledge of how the search engines’ algorithms operate to apply the necessary details to a website to help the website rank properly.
I am asked many times if there is some ”trickery” involved in getting a website to a front page ranking on Google. Well to be honest, all SEO is some form of “trickery”. What I mean by that, is that you provide exactly what Google wants, like feeding the search engine spider it’s favorite food. The spider will remember you and keep coming back for more of its favorite food.
The “trick” if you will, is in developing the “favorite food” for the spider. For Google, in-bound links and fresh content are two of the favorite foods. However, it goes beyond just in-bound linking and fresh content. Links coming in from higher quality websites are generally better and linking deeper into your website help also.
Of course, there are still the basics as well. META tags, page titles, page descriptions, keyword selection, keyword density, url names and other basic factors still carry some weight, but not like a couple of years ago. Still, doing these things right will definitely help you against your competition that ignores these basics.
What about “black hat seo”? There are websites that are beating the system and if they get caught, they will get “slapped” down and lose their position in the “serps”. You can go blackhat also, but you will have to weigh the risk of your website being knocked down off your ranking and maybe even being banned. Your choice.
